Viral Email Gets an Update

I received the following as an email forward the other day, and a very brief google showed me it was wildly viral – appearing in literally thousands of blogs and articles. What I found mildly off-putting was that in all that exposure, it still remained steadfastly Christian-centric, though the advice in it is sound for ALL people. Not that I don’t believe you are all capable of reading between the lines and applying the lessons to your own life, Christian or otherwise, but I really felt SOMEONE ought to make the statement… so I cheerfully volunteer!

Putting On My Gym Shoes

So what gives? Why are there so many days that I view putting on my gym shoes like a sentence to the iron maiden? Can I argue that working out is not a valuable use of 30, 45, or even 60 minutes of my precious time? While I could simply chalk it up to the crazy person who lives in my head (!), the real answer for me (and those of you for whom this is a familiar scenario) is two-fold. The first issue is that all of us have an inner three-year-old with a tyrannical demand for instant gratification, and the fact is that the benefits of exercise take time to reap. The second factor, which is infinitely more complicated, is an issue of deserving.

Dangerously European

Since “discovering” the laws of the universe some nine months ago, I’ve been learning to let my body and my intuition guide me, rather than my sense of obligation… and can I just take a moment to tell you how much HAPPIER I am? It infuses me with energy, with passion, with a sense of joie de vivre. In preparation for the launch of my next big project, and possibly the next phase of my life, my new favoritest-thing-in-the-whole-world to do is to sit out on my patio, soaking up what few glorious rays of summer we’re gifted with in the Chicago area, drinking wine, listening to music, and writing away. I’ve come to term my new way of life as “dangerously European.” See, I live in the burbs, and my neighbors are less than 30 feet from me. In fact, I’d bet they’re at their kitchen table watching me right now, shaking their heads at my rapidly disappearing wine. Oh, did I mention it’s 10:30am? Haha!
